This handsome portrayal of a man strolling has been fashioned of bits of colored stone laid into the slate like a mosaic. Each color is a different piece of inlay. Close scrutiny is a delight; the gentleman appears to be crossing a log over a stream-bed. His posture is erect and somewhat stiff, his head a bit small for his height. His tricorn hat is trimmed with brass stringing, as are the borders of the representation.
Condition is good overall, but for a piece of slate 1.675" missing from above the brass stringer top left, and inclusion flaws in the body of the slate. These were buffed over, probably when the intaglio was created. 6" by 6.875" sight.
